Description

Provide professional administrative support to the Chairperson of the Department of Sociology, departmental faculty, and students.  Conduct administrative duties punctually, cooperatively, creatively, and efficiently. Organize departmental activities as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage correspondence, reports, and documents
  • Prepare requisitions for conferences, travel arrangements, equipment purchase, and the like
  • Take, type, and distribute minutes of meetings
  • Implement and uphold office systems
  • Maintain schedules and calendars
  • Arrange and confirm appointments
  • Organize internal and external events
  • Handle in-coming mail and other material
  • Categorize and maintain filing systems
  • Collate information
  • Maintain databases
  • Communicate well orally and in writing to answer inquiries and to provide information
  • Serve as liaison with internal and external contacts
  • Coordinate the flow of information both internally and externally
  • Operate office equipment
  • Manage office space
  • All other duties as assigned by Director

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Relevant training and previous professional work experience
  • Must have proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products including MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook, spreadsheets, word processing, and database management
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures 
  • Knowledge of business principles
  • Proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and other English language skills
  • Proven experience in production of correspondence and documents
  • Proven experience in information and communication management 
  • Typing speed and accuracy--desirable
