Description

The International Office oversees all matters related to international educational programs and activities at the university. The International Office seeks out, organizes, and processes study abroad opportunities, student foreign exchange programs, and advises faculty on related grant opportunities, scholarly exchanges, and instructor-led foreign experiences.

The Hampton University international students’ community includes a high volume of students from numerous foreign countries and continents. The office houses the Designated School Official (DSO) to assist Hampton University international students in complying with regulations of the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Special orientation programs and workshops for international students and scholars are provided to assist international students in maintaining their visa status as they pursue their degrees. Topics include the time frame for completing your program of study, special registrations that may be required from time-to-time; permission to work under certain authorized circumstances, travel regulations, tax information and other important matters.

The International Office serves as a one-stop service facility for the entire Hampton University campus focused on coordinating global educational outreach, international student affairs and issues, cross-cultural social activities and international academic enrichment opportunities for all students, faculty and the community at-large. In addition, the International Office offers referrals on related issues such as international student activities, community outreach, and individual and group assistance with the many cultural aspects of studying in a foreign country.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The International Office is fast-paced and, therefore, the ability to multitask effectively is essential. Work is performed primarily in an office setting and in community meeting rooms. Some work may involve visiting other sites, both on campus and off. Face to face engagement with students, families, faculty, and staff is expected.
