Hampton University is seeking a secretary who will assist the Office of Special Events with various administrative and clerical support tasks.    

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains the Directors and Assistant Directors calendar of meetings, presentations, and deadlines.
  • Performs all clerical tasks, including typing, copying, retrieving, sorting and sending mail.
  • Assists in the preparation of meetings and events including school and committee meetings organized by the Office of Special Events.
  • Manages front desk operations (including answering the telephone and greeting visitors at the reception area).
  • Provides information and referrals.
  • Prepares presentation materials including power point presentations and handouts.
  • Collects and disseminates department-related information.
  • Interfaces with repair personnel, vendors, delivery personnel, and equipment-service providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.    


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office  
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrate initiative and sense of ownership for projects.
  • Able to work from Hampton University.
  • Able to live in the Hampton Roads area.
