The Hampton University Department of Physics invites nominations and applications for a postdoctoral associate position beginning March 1, 2019.

Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution. The Department of Physics offers Bachelor’s as well as Master’s and PhD degrees in Physics with emphasis on nuclear, optical, and medical physics.

Duties and Responsibilities

A postdoctoral associate position is to be filled in the Physics Department in the group of Dr. Michael Kohl. The main focus of the position will be on the Muon Scattering Experiment (MUSE) at PSI to investigate the proton radius puzzle. The group is actively developing Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors. Further, the group is involved in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model with the TREK experiment at J-PARC and DarkLight in the US, as well as in two-photon exchange and nucleon form factor studies at DESY and Jefferson Lab.


The candidate should have a PhD in nuclear or particle physics. Some prior experience in software and hardware is desirable.
