Cafeteria Information
The three-story 100,000 sq. ft. facility will house two dining halls, one for students that will seat 1,500 and another for special University dining and entertainment events that will seat 1,150. To maximize the benefit of its prime location, the composition of the building will be designed to accommodate views of downtown Hampton through a three-story convex glass curtain wall that will be the length of the building. The facility is surrounded by a terrace where eaters can dine al fresco when weather allows.
The facility will have marketplace style dining centers with an emphasis on variety, freshness and quality. It will feature cook to order food stations, a homemade waffle and omelet station; a cereal and fruit bar; a grill station offering burgers and steaks; fresh market salad bar with season salads and oriental vegetables; hot bar with fresh steamed vegetables featuring a vegetarian food bar; different styles of pasta, sauces and pizza made to order; a variety of wraps and various fillings for tacos; a fast food station; an all American deli station featuring a variety of sliced meats, breads, and rolls; prepared salads such as shrimp, tuna, egg and salmon; gourmet dessert station and a traditional entree food line.
The new state of the art facility dining hall will cost approximately $25 million to build. The University is asking all alumni and friends of Hampton to contribute as their means allow to match the $5 million challenge grant from an anonymous donor. The challenge grant will match dollar for dollar all monies contributed to this project by June 30, 2007.
As alumni reflect on their experience at Hampton, the cafeteria has always been a part of your fond memories of our beloved Hampton. Whether you ate at Macedonia Hall, the 'small caf' or the 'big caf' –you met lifelong friends, made plans for the day and/or weekend, discussed class projects, papers, research and examinations. Throughout Hampton's history, the cafeteria has been where many cherished memories have occurred. Now it's time for you to step up to the plate and help create memories for the next generation of Hamptonians.
