08/30/10 HU AVIATION PROFESSOR RECEIVES TOP ACCREDITATION
  Hampton, VA - Hampton University's Dr. Donna Wilt recently earned renewal of her Master Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) accreditation. Wilt, associate professor in the Department of Aviation, is one of only 53 flight professionals in the United States to earn the national accreditation four times.

08/26/10 HU WELCOMES 1172 NEW AND TRANSFER STUDENTS
  Hampton, VA - New and transfer students will begin arriving on Hampton University’s campus tomorrow for the Fall 2010 semester. A total of 1172 students (1032 new students and 140 transfer students) will begin classes on Sept. 7. Freshman Orientation Week is Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

PREMIERES SEPT. 1 ON COX CHANNEL 11
  Hampton, VA - In partnership with Cox Business and Cox Channel 11, Hampton University has produced a new television show called “The View from Hampton U.” The public affairs program features weekly news, talk, and reality show elements about Hampton University. The show debuts Sept. 1 at noon on Cox Channel 11. It will run each week on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at noon and 5 p.m.

08/20/10 HU DEPARTMENT CHAIR OF 50 YEARS STEPS DOWN
  Hampton, VA - Dr. Robert Martin Screen has announced that he will step down as chair of the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Hampton University at the end of the August. Screen, who founded the department and has served as chair for more than 50 years, will continue as a professor in the department, concentrating on his writing and research in the areas of language development and disorders, and the impact of culture on communication.

08/11/10 HU AWARDED $2.69M GRANT
TO ASSIST LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS
  Hampton, VA - The U.S. Department of Education’s School Leadership Program has awarded Hampton University a $322,489 grant for five years, totaling $2.69 million in support of the HU Leadership Academy (HULA). U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the grant. Through the grant, HU will partner with area schools to implement a multifaceted approach towards improving student achievement by improving the effectiveness of educational leadership.

08/02/10 HU AIM SATELLITE MISSION EXTENDED
  Hampton, VA - The Hampton University Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) satellite mission recently received a contract increase of $6.3 million to extended satellite mission operations until September 2014. AIM received a contract increase in 2009 to extend satellite operations through September 2012.

INSTITUTE RECEIVES $1 MILLION ENDOWMENT
  Hampton, VA - Hampton University has been awarded a $1 million endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation in support of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at HU (OLLI at HU), which offers continuing educational opportunities to mature adults.
