HU Presents Presidential Citizenship Awards During Founder's Day

Hampton, VA - Jillian Heather Davis, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences at Hampton University, is featured in the February 2007 issue of Ebony magazine. Davis is featured in an article titled “30 Leaders of the Future.” According to Ebony, “the young leaders featured on these pages are representative of the enormous talent and promise among African-Americans who are age of 30 and younger.”
Davis, 30, is a native of Greensboro, N.C. She coordinates HU School of Pharmacy students to speak to local high school students about pharmacy and other math and science related careers, she volunteers with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Virginia Peninsula and with “Blue Thunder,” the HU cheerleading squad. Davis is also a member of the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society and Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society.
“I am very excited,” said Davis. “I would read this article when I was in high school and I was always interested in being able to be featured.”
Davis’ primary research interest is cancer. She is currently researching whether different breast cancer treatments are needed and would be beneficial for different ethnic groups. She has also studied the reduction of toxic effects in breast cancer chemotherapy treatments
Davis’ next aspiration is to begin hosting a local television medical segment. Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from North Carolina A&T University and a doctorate in pharmacology with a concentration in oncology from Howard University.
“Follow your dreams, be determined and persistent,” said Davis as advice to aspiring young leaders. “Use roadblocks as stepping-stones.” |
