Black History Month at HU
Hampton, VA - Hampton University is having several events on campus to commemorate Black History Month throughout February. The month’s theme is “Black Hollywood: Reclaiming Our Role In Society.” All events are free and open to the public. Feb. 4
“The Leading Man: Reclaiming Your Role As A Black Man.” Discussion will include how African-American men can become better in our society.

Feb. 9
“Lady Sings The Blues Coffeehouse.” Singers from the campus and the community honor and portray famous African-American singers throughout history.

Feb. 11
“The Leading Lady-Superwoman-What Happens When Your Cape Falls?” Discussion will include ways African-American woman can reclaim their role in society, while maintaining strong character.

Feb. 16
“Black Man Speaks, Black Woman Proclaims.” The program will consist of reenactments of famous speeches by leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Sojourner Truth and Barack Obama.

“Superstar Status: What Does It Mean To Be Black And Elite?” Discussion on issues that continue to plague black communities.

Black Heritage Extravaganza-A theatrical production that celebrates the history and culture of Africans and African Americans. The production includes songs, poetry, speeches, music and dances. The event includes student, faculty and community performers.
