HU Honors Martin Luther King, Jr.
Hampton, VA - This year Hampton University will host two events to commemorate the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Both events are free and open to the public.
The HU Pan-Hellenic Council will sponsor the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. March on Monday, Jan. 18 at 1:30 p.m. The march will begin at the Emancipation Oak near the School of Pharmacy parking lot on Emancipation Drive and will conclude at the front steps of Ogden Hall. A brief ceremony featuring the Rev. Jerome A. Barber, senior pastor of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple in Hampton, Va.
In addition, the HU Department of Music and the HU Choirs present Let Freedom Ring: the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Choral Festival on Monday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Hampton University’s Ogden Hall.
A celebration of American choral music composed and arranged by African-Americans, will feature the HU Concert Choir and the Woodside High School Jubilee Chorale, as conducted by Jason Dungee. Maestro Royzell Dillard will conduct the HU Concert Choir, which is the primary touring ensemble for the university.
