Hampton Hoops To Benefit Haiti Relief Efforts
Hampton, VA - When the Hampton University men’s and women’s basketball teams welcome Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M to the HU Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 23 and Monday, Jan. 25, respectively, the school will be doing its part to help those affected by the disastrous earthquake in Haiti.
Tickets for each night are $10, with $5 of every ticket sold going to earthquake relief. Proceeds will go to HU Haitian Relief Fund and then donated to the American Red Cross.
The HU Haitian Relief Fund is spearheaded by HU Student Body President Matthew Washington and Miss Hampton University Nikole Churchill. Money, clothing and other items are also being collected in the HU Student Center.
“One of the pillars of Hampton University culture is service, and helping in the Haiti relief efforts is something that HU and the student body must be a part of,” said Washington.
The Lady Pirates will take on Bethune-Cookman at 4 p.m. on Jan. 23, with the men’s game following at 6 p.m. Florida A&M will come to Hampton on Jan. 25, with the women’s game tipping off at 6 p.m., before the men’s contest at 8 p.m.
