HU Announces Black History Month Events

Hampton, VA - Hampton University is having several events on campus to commemorate Black History Month throughout February. The month’s theme is “The Hampton Renaissance.” All events are free and open to the public. For more information contact the HU Office of Student Activities at (757) 727-5691.

Feb. 2
Opening Ceremony
7 p.m.
Ogden Hall 

Feb. 4
“State of the Black Man:  The Blueprint” -- Discussion will include how African-American men can contribute to society.
7 p.m.
Student Center Ballroom

Feb. 6
“Today’s Trailblazers of Tidewater:  African Americans of Achievement.” A panel of 10 professionals, including mayors, musicians and physicians will speak about the pathways to success in their careers.
1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Hampton University Museum

Feb. 15
Lady Sings the Blues Coffeehouse -- Singers from the campus and the community honor and portray famous African-American singers throughout history.

Feb. 17
“Back to Black” Fashion Show

Feb. 19
Music of African American Composers Concert
8 p.m.

Feb. 23
Black Heritage Extravaganza -- A theatrical production that celebrates the history and culture of Africans and African Americans. The production includes songs, poetry, speeches, music and dances. The event includes student, faculty and community performers.
