Hampton, VA - In 2004,
the HU School of Pharmacy had 100 percent passing rate on the North American
Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX), an exam each graduate must
take in order to become a licensed pharmacist in the U.S. All 32 May 2004
graduates of the HU School of Pharmacy passed the NAPLEX. The NAPLEX reported
the total test scores in two test windows: May 1, 2004 - Aug. 31, 2004
and Sept. 1, 2004 - Dec. 31, 2004.
Between May and August 2004, 21 HU graduates
took the exam:
- HU School of Pharmacy school passing rate: 100 percent
- State passing rate 96.99 percent
- National passing rate 95.11 percent
The remaining
11 graduates took the exam between September 2004
and December 2004:
- HU School of Pharmacy passing rate 100 percent

- National passing rate 84.79 percent
Students must
be a graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
in America, and receive a score of 75 percent or
higher in order to take the NAPLEX. HU School of Pharmacy is a very young
program and is already surpassing national and state standards.
The HU School of Pharmacy accepted its first class
in 1999 and graduated its first class in May 2002.
"The success of our
students is intimately linked to our rigorous curriculum," said
Dr. Hugh Mclean, interim dean and associate professor
of HU's School of Pharmacy. "It's
an indication of our curriculum and testament to
the dedication of the faculty and staff. All of us
in the School of Pharmacy have done something to
help prepare our students to be effective pharmacists."
