HU Players and Company Presents MacBeth

HU Players and Company proudly present "MacBeth"

Hampton, VA - "Fair is foul, and foul is fair" as Hampton University's Department of Fine and Performing Arts and the HU Players and Company proudly present "MacBeth" at HU's Little Theatre in Armstrong Hall. The musical will run March 20-22 at 8 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on March 23 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for senior citizens, children and students and admission for HU students is free.

Known as one of Shakespeare's masterpieces of tragedy, "MacBeth" is a frightening and astonishing insight into the human passion for political and military power, as well as consequences of corrupting ambition unchecked by morality or conscience. This is a thriller not to be missed!

"Macbeth" cannot be dated precisely to when it first premiered, but many scholars believed the likely date to be between 1603 and 1606. It is frequently performed at both amateur and professional levels. Often regarded as archetypal, the play tells of the dangers of the lust for power and the betrayal of friends. Bloody daggers, witches and ghosts haunt all come to Hampton University and remember, "Fair is foul, and foul is fair."

Professor Robin Jackson Boisseau will serve as director for "MacBeth". This is her fifth year with the Hampton Players and Company, and has directed "Lysistrata," "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Crimes of the Heart," "The Taming of the Shrew," and "Pirates of Penzance" at HU.

In his 19th season with the HU Players, Assistant Professor of Speech and Theatre C. Perry Otto will serve as the scenic and light designer. Bresean Jenkins, assistant professor of theatre, will return as the costume and make-up artist for "MacBeth". Appearing on stages from New York to Los Angeles, internationally known Michael Kirkland will serve as the guest director for fight scenes.
