Filmmaker Monty Ross to speak at HU

Hampton, VA - The Department on English at Hampton University will welcome filmmaker Monty Ross on Monday, Feb. 25, in the Harvey Library Atrium. "An Evening with Monty Ross" will begin at 7 p.m.

This unique event will feature Ross sharing his personal experience in the film industry. He will also discuss the impact African-Americans have made in the filmmaking industry and answer questions from the audience.

Legendary film producer, actor, director and production manager, Ross is noted for production of historic films such as "Crooklyn" and "Malcolm X" with Academy award winner Spike Lee's production company 40 Acres and A Mule Filmworks.

Ross' 20-year career began in 1986 with the production of the highly anticipated drama "She's Gotta Have It". Since then, he has appeared in four films including Spike Lee's "Mo Betta Blues" (1990), directed "Reasons" (1996) and co-produced ten films; including "Jungle Fever" (1991), "Do the Right Thing" (1989) and "School Daze" (1988).
