MINISTER’S CONFERENCE TO EXPLORE CHANGES IN THE MODELS OF
MINISTRY
Hampton, VA - The
90th Annual Hampton University (HU) Ministers’ Conference
and 70th Annual Choir Directors’ Organists’ Guild will
be held June 6 - June 11. HU will host a variety of accomplished
ministers.
This year’s special guest preacher will
be the Rev. John Bryant, Bishop of the 5th Episcopal District of
the AME Church. Others invited to enlighten
the attendees with theme, "The Shift in Paradigms of Parish Ministry," are:
Conference Preacher Dr. William Watley from Newark, N.J.; the Rev. Fredrick D.
Haynes, III from New Voices Emerging in Dallas; Dr. Floyd Flake, Pastoral Management
of Jamaica, N.Y. and esteemed scholar Dr. Robert Smith, Samford University in
Birmingham, Alabama.
“The Ministers’ Conference is always
cutting edge and provides a model for ministry,” said the
Rev. Dr. Timothy Boddie, executive secretary-treasurer of the Ministers’ Conference. “The
90th Annual Ministers’ Conference
is a landmark year, and with deep roots in the tradition of the church this
year’s
theme, ‘The Shift in Paradigms of Parish Ministry,’ recognizes
the shift of times even in the church.”
This year, Ministers’ Conference President
Suzan Johnson Cook will present an inaugural Ministers’ Conference
Living Legend Award to three ministers of the gospel in honor and
recognition of their outstanding service. If there
are any suggestions as to who should be the awardees of our prestigious award,
email Cook at sujayc@aol.com by March 1. Suggested ministers should have at
least 30 years of experience and have made exceptional contributions
to the Ministers’ Conference
and/or to the legacy of the African-American church.
