HU Terps Celebrate 75 Years
Hampton, VA - The Hampton University Terpsichorean Dance Company will celebrate 75 years of excellence in dance with their spring concert March 20 in Ogden Hall. The show will feature a choreographed piece by guest choreographer Tamika Burks Steely, and special appearances by various HU alumni.
Steely will choreograph a work depicting the influence of art and dance on politics with a tribute to President Barack Obama’s victory last fall. The evenings’ choreography will encompass themes of passion, relationships, obsessions, and expressions through Modern, Jazz, African, and Musical Theater.
The Hampton Institute Creative Dance Group, better known today as the Terpsichorean Dance Company was founded by Charles H. Williams in 1934. The company has developed a rich history as one of the first African American touring companies to perform in New York.
