Alvin Ailey Choreographer Creates Performance for HU Dancers

The Terpsichorean Dance Company performs at the 2007 Hampton University Black History Extravaganza.

Hampton, VA - The Hampton University Terpsichorean Dance Company is performing 8 p.m. March 14 at Ogden Hall. Elbert Watson, a former Alvin Ailey choreographer and dancer, choreographed the performance, "Hope For A Generation."

The HU dance group has been in existence since 1934 and is comprised of 28 university students from freshman to senior. The group performs in various styles, including modern, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, African and tap dance.

HU's director of dance and the Terpsichorean group, Beverly Duane, said she's excited about the upcoming performance. The group performs throughout the year at various functions in Hampton Roads, but has annual concerts in the fall and spring.

"We have two major performances a year, full scale productions," she said. "I hope everyone enjoys it."

Tickets for the show are $5 for students and military, $10 for general admission. Tickets will be available at the door.
