HU Hosts Health Scholars from Japan
Hampton, VA - Three Japanese scholars will visit Hampton University March 18-22 to learn about standards and accreditation processes for physical education, through collaboration with the school's Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department.
Dr. Takeo Takahashi, of Tokyo, Mr. Satoshi Yoshino, of Ibaraki and Mr. Takeshi Yoshinaga, of Tokyo, are all scholars in health and physical education at universities in Japan.
A lecture on "Socio Cultural Health and Physical Education" by all three visitors is scheduled for 7 p.m., March 20 in the meeting room of the William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library. HU Physical Education Assistant Professor Dr. Takahiro Sato will translate the lecture. The talk is free and open to the public.
The scholars' visit is the first of many efforts in the college's "Global Education" initiative. Other planned initiatives include a foreign exchange student program between Puerto Rico, Japan, Turkey and HU, Sato said.
"No other university in the world has done a foreign exchange program in conjunction with the health and physical education area," said Sato, of HU's plans.
The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department, in the College of Education and Continuing Studies, is hosting the event.
