SPONSORS FOREIGN FILM FESTIVAL
Hampton, VA - The
Hampton University Office of Student Activities, in conjunction
with the Modern Foreign Languages Department, will be sponsoring
a Foreign Film Festival from March 28 through April 1 in the Student
Center Theater.
The movie schedule is as follows: March 28 “Monsoon
Wedding” at 2
p.m. and 6 p.m.; March 29 “Mondays in the Sun” at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.;
March 30 “Live Flesh” at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.; March 31 “The Man
on the Train” at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and April 1 “Bread and Tulips” at
6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
“Monsoon Wedding” is
a romantic comedy about a Punjabi bride who must live by her father’s
traditional ways, though has a modern approach to life. “Mondays
in the Sun” is a Spanish film about a small group
of shipyard workers that have lost their job. Another Spanish movie, “Live
Flesh”, is about a man who shoots and paralyzes a cop, and is sent to
jail for seven years. After his release he learns that his true love has married
the
cop. A retired poetry teacher opens his home to a bank robber in “The
Man on the Train.” The movie explores friendships between the two and
reflects on the outcome of their lives if they had not met. Italian comedy, “Bread
and Tulips”, follows Rosalba on her journey in Venice after she misses
her tour bus. On her trip she meets many people and finds herself to be transformed
from housewife to adventurer.
Admission is $4 for the general public and $2
