High School Day at HU

Hampton, VA -Hampton University is hosting its 31st annual High School Day April 3. Events are scheduled for April 4 and 5 as well, including the first Transfer Day, April 4, which caters to current college students looking to switch schools.

Both events give visitors a chance to preview what HU offers academically and culturally. Representatives from various school offices will be on-hand to answer questions and provide information, including financial aid, housing, academic deans and student organizations. The weekend’s events include a step show, gospel concert and fine and performing arts showcase.

Melinda N. Gainer, assistant director of undergraduate admissions and coordinator of campus visitation/special events, said the event is an opportunity for perspective HU students, “to explore the campus and receive a glimpse of our academic, cultural and social life.” Last year, 4,000 people attended.

HU continues to be ranked among the top 10 in graduating African Americans with biology, business management, communications, english, journalism and psychology degrees by Black Issues in Higher Education magazine. The school is among the leaders in higher education, and has been ranked among the top (No. 24) southern universities in the regional university category of the 2009 U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges rankings.

Additionally, HU is ranked among the Princeton Review’s 2009 Best Southeastern Schools, and the Black Enterprise 2008 fourth best college for African Americans. Visit www.hamptonu.edu/highschoolday/ for registration information or the HU Office of Admissions at 757.727.5329.
