HU's Healthy Choices for Minorities
Hampton, VA - On
Wednesday April 5, Hampton University’s Healthy Hamptonians 2010
will be celebrating their sixth annual Healthy
Choices for Minorities Health Fair. The events are free and open
to the public. From
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be free health screenings: blood cholesterol,
blood glucose, blood pressure, body composition,
hearing, posture analysis, shoe evaluation and
sickle cell trait.
Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to
learn how to maintain a healthy life style. You will get the chance
to meet with trained professionals and counselors who will guide you
down the path of healthy living.
Healthy Hamptonians was created to support
our national health agenda for the next decade, Healthy People 2010 – Wellness
for Life was established in 2000 as a health promotion and disease prevention
initiative for the Hampton University campus community. Healthy
Hamptonians mission is to improve quality of life and reduce health disparities
among faculty, staff and students of the HU campus and its surrounding
community.
“Healthy People 2010 has 10 focus areas
including, physical activity, weight management, tobacco use, substance
use & abuse, healthy relationships, immunization and health care
services,” said Dr. Marilyn Wells, Chair of the Health, Physical
Science, and Recreation Department and creator of Healthy Hamptonians.
“We’ve also sponsored Weight Watchers
At Work programs, walking and aerobic groups, and Wellness Fridays Seminars,
to name a few.”
