HU Students Beautify Campus Grounds
Hampton, VA - Hampton University Beautification Day is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 4 on the school’s campus. The university’s Student Government Association (SGA) is hosting the event.
It’s an opportunity to bring students together and contribute to the campus, said Amena Ross, the SGA undergraduate trustee and an event organizer.
Students will be performing grounds keeping tasks around campus, including planting flowers, picking up trash along the waterfront, pressure washing sidewalks, and painting faculty and staff offices.
“This is a (project) that people can walk by and say, ‘I planted that, I did that,’” Ross said, adding that it’s easy for students to get splintered from each other in their daily activities.
Student signup for the free, campus wide event is available on site. All student organizations are invited to participate. The day of the event, students will meet for the opening ceremony at the patio between the HU Student Center and Martin Luther King Hall at 9 a.m.
In addition to grounds work, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., students are having lunch from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and doing fun, field activities from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“It’s service and fun at the same time,” Ross said. |
