HU Student Research Day to explore Interdisciplinary Sciences
Hampton, VA - The Hampton University School of Science is hosting the 14th Annual Student Research Day Symposium on April 10, from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. in the HU Student Center Ballroom.
This year’s theme, “Enhancing Life through Interdisciplinary Sciences,” is one of the major research focuses of the 21st Century. Luncheon keynote speaker, Dr. Edison Fowlks, HU Professor of Biological Sciences and Director of the Biotechnology Laboratory, will speak on The Age of the Genome.
Fowlks has concentrated his efforts on developing the relationship between biology, computer sciences and mathematics disciplines in hopes of creating research teams that not only understand biology better, but are able to solve biological and biomedical problems from a perspective of diverse disciplines.
The research symposium is designed to highlight the research of undergraduate and graduate students, expose high school and elementary school students to the educational and research experiences available at HU, while showcasing their own research projects. The symposium will also emphasize the need to increase the number of minorities involved in scientific research.
"Our aim is to recognize some of the best and brightest young scientists in Hampton Roads," said Michael Druitt, assistant to the dean in the School of Science and co-chair of the event.
