HU Has Summer Outlets For Youth, Adults
Hampton, VA - Hampton University will host a collage of summer programs open to the public. Many of the programs are offered every summer and give participants a learning experience, as well as a fun one. For more information on any of the listings please call the specified number or 757.727.5237.
*HU Kiddie Kollege and Kamp begins June 16 until July 18. The program is for children ages five to 12, and offers a full day of academic enrichment and recreational programs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early care is available from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. for an additional fee.
Tuition is $575. If your child has a Busch Garden season pass, tuition is $535. Cost includes all classes, field trips, activities and extras. All deposits and tuition payments must be made at Whipple Barn on the HU campus. Then, an original receipt and application must be submitted to Dr. William Becker in Room 134 or 152 in Holland Hall.
*Riders Programs. Several different programs are available. The program is a five day, two hour camp for children 7-17 to engage in horse riding, grooming, barn work and other activities.

*Jobs, Education and Training Corps (JET). Youth between 14 and 17 are eligible to participate from June 16-August 8. The program is an intense 12-month curriculum with emphasis on strong work ethic, education, discipline, spirituality, goal setting and character enhancement.
*The Barney E. Smart Summer High School Band Camp and Director's Clinic. The program, for band directors, high school drum majors, percussion sections, flag corps, dance teams, majorettes and other units, is available from July 6-July 12. *Hampton University Music Enrichment Program (HUM). The program, for grades 4-9 from June 16-July 18, provides students an opportunity to spend time in the study and enjoyment of music. Cost is $300 per student ($55 weekly). For more information call 757.728.6604.
*Pre-College/Summer Bridge Program. The program, an academic enrichment and residential program, is available for pre-freshman and rising high school seniors. Program dates are from June 20-July 25. For more information call 757.727.5511.
*Young Doctors Summer Science Camp. Middle school students are eligible to participate between June 23-July 25. The program provides an exciting and unique "Hands On" experience in both the lab and classroom, and exposes students to a wide range of science disciplines. *Summer Transportation Institute. Rising high school freshman, sophomores and juniors are eligible to participate from June 23-July 18. The four-week non-residential program introduces promising secondary school students to the transportation industry. For more information call 757.727.5362.
*A Plus (A+) for Pre-College Students. Ages 12-16 are eligible to participate from June 22-June 28. This year's theme is Aviation in the 21st Century: Are You Ready to Soar? Participants will examine the origins of aviation flight. For more information call 757.727.5076.
