HU Gala to Raise Money for Youth Program

Hampton, VA -Hampton University's Job, Education, Training (JET) Corps will host its Sixth Annual Black Tie Gala "Keepers of the Dream." The gala, which honors community leaders, will be held on May 25 at 6 p.m. in the HU Student Center Ballroom.

For the past five years the JET Annual Gala has honored local community leaders and raised funds for JET’s programs. The gala will include a silent auction, dancing, live entertainment and a catered meal.

Don Roberts WAVY TV 10 anchor,  will be the master of ceremonies for the gala. The event will also honor Tony Brown, dean of the Hampton University Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications and host of “Tony Brown’s Journal.” Delegate Mayme Bacote, Virginia House of Delegates; Nathan Watts, President/CEO of N-Sight Marketing; and JET peer leaders will also be honored. The honorees are being recognized for their contributions to the education of youth, a mission that coincides with the JET Corps program.

JET Corps began in 1992 to help youth in Hampton Roads and surrounding areas redirect their lives. The program, which consists of four phases, allows children to obtain education, jobs, and training needed to succeed in the real world. JET is the brainchild of HU President Dr. William R. Harvey. Donovan Rose is the director of the JET Program. The program has contributed to improving more than 1,000 children’s lives.
