Winners Selected in HU and Prudential Financial Case Competition
Hampton, VA -Hampton University graduate
and undergraduate students competed in teams in this year’s Prudential
Financial, Inc. case competition, held in collaboration with Hampton University’s
School of Business. Teams were asked to develop and recommend long-term
strategies for a fictitious, leading variable annuity company. The top place
team, Sylvester Bryce, Diane Maisonet and Brittany Henry received a $21,000
cash award. Runner-ups were awarded an Apple Macbook computer and third
place team members received an Apple iPad.
“This is our fourth year sponsoring the case competition with Hampton,
and it clearly demonstrates our commitment to developing strong diverse
talent,” said Rich Carbone, chief financial officer of Prudential
Financial. “This event not only provides an opportunity for students
to respond to real-world business challenges, it also gives us a chance
to identify top recruits for future positions within Prudential.”
The business case competition is the highlight of Prudential’s ongoing
partnership with Hampton University, one of the nation’s premier historically
black colleges and universities. Executives from Prudential’s annuities
business developed this year’s case study. Five teams prepared and
presented their recommendations to a panel of Prudential Executives who
traveled to the university to meet with competitors.
Finalists were invited to Prudential’s headquarters in Newark, N.J.
for a full day of events, including the presentation of their strategies
to a panel of senior executives. Following the presentations, the executive
panel awarded the grand prize to Bryce, Maisonet and Henry of team BMH Consulting.
“We enjoy our relationship with Prudential Financial,” stated
Sid H. Credle, dean of the Hampton University School of Business. “The
annual case competition is an outstanding vehicle to provide technical,
analytical and presentation skills for our students, while providing a competitive
recruitment strategy for Prudential. We are very proud of our student’s
performance on what was truly a complex and difficult technical project.”
Prior to the competition, Diane Maisonet was offered an internship in
the Finance division. And as a result of their performance two other Hampton
University students, Sylvester Bryce and Zachary Thompson also received
internship offers.
