HU Ministers' Conference to Feature Two Acclaimed Gospel Singers

Hampton, VA - Ministers from across the nation will converge on June 5-10 at Hampton University for the 91st Annual Ministers’ Conference and 71st Annual Choir Directors’ Organists’ Guild. This year’s conference will feature actress, singer LeCresia Campbell and Anwar Robinson of Fox’s American Idol.

The theme for this year’s conference will be "The Balancing Act: Balancing our Lives, Balancing our Ministries." The conference will center on self-care and self-nurture of ministers, focusing on the balance between ministers’ personal lives and the requirements of their positions in the church. This year’s keynote conference preacher will be Dr. Maurice Watson, senior pastor of Beulahland Bible Church in Macon, Ga.

Conference highlights include:

  • Opening Session: On June 6 at 7:30 p.m. the opening session will be held in the HU Convocation Center. The session will include the Conference President Message by Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook and a performance by actress and gospel music artist LeCresia Campbell. Campbell is known for her performances in Dream Girls, Mr. Right Now and His Woman, His Wife. She is currently listed in the top five on the gospel music charts. The event will also recognize Lerone Bennett, Jr. of Ebony Magazine; Tommie Farley, retired vice-president of marketing and circulation at the Daily Press; and Rev. Dorothy Boulware of the Baltimore Afro-American for their coverage of past conferences.
  • "Balancing the 4M’s": On June 7 from 1:30 -3:00 p.m. a panel will discuss the issues of money, medicine, marketing and mission work in the HU Student Center Ballroom. The event will feature Dr. Jerome Barber of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple in Hampton, Va., Dr. Therman S. Evans of Morning Star Community Christian Center in Linden, N.J., Teresa Hairston, founder of Gospel Today magazine, and Kenneth Royster of Met Life.
  • Evening Worship Performance: On June 7 at 7:30 p.m. Anwar Robinson, a finalist in Fox’s American Idol, will perform in the HU Convocation Center. Robinson is a graduate of Westminister Choir College of Rider University.
  • Women in Ministry Panel: On June 8 from 1:15-3:00 p.m. a lunch reception will feature a panel to discuss women in ministry in the HU Student Center Ballroom. The event will feature Rev. Brenda Gregg, Rev. Jasmine Sculark, Rev. Laura Sinclair and Rev. Joan Wharton.
  • The Charles H. Flax Memorial Concert: On June 9 at 7:30 p.m. the concert will be directed by Royzell Dillard and James Abbington in the HU Convocation Center.
