HU Welcomes Barack Obama to Ministers’ Conference

Hampton, VA - U.S. Senator Barack Obama will address attendees of the 93rd Annual Hampton University Ministers’ Conference and 73rd Annual Choir Directors’ and Organists’ Guild on Tuesday, June 5 at 11:50 a.m. at the HU Convocation Center. As a special guest to the conference, Obama will offer brief remarks on faith, politics and American life.
In 2005, Obama was sworn into office as a Democratic United States Senator from Illinois. He serves on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and the Foreign Relations Committee. He previously served as member of the Illinois State Senate for eight years. In February, Obama announced his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Obama is the author of two books, “Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance” and “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.”
He attends Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Ill., with his wife, Michelle, and candidly speaks about his own religious conversion and the role of faith in American life.
The HU Ministers’ Conference and Annual Choir Directors’ and Organists’ Guild will be held on June 3-8 at Hampton University. With the theme of “The Form and Shape of Preaching,” this year’s conference will focus on the various and diverse ways in which pastors and ministers approach the awesome task of gospel proclamation. The onsite registration fee is $175.
