HU Invites Students to Explore the 'Business of Engineering'
Hampton, VA -The Hampton University Business
of Engineering summer program is currently registering talented high school
students interested in immersing themselves in a free weeklong introduction
to engineering.
Throughout the week of July 12-16, rising high school sophomores will be
exposed to real world business and engineering decision making, cutting-edge
computer design software, and methods of problem solving used in engineering.
Students will enjoy a bridge design competition, case studies on the Hampton
Roads Crossing, and a field trip to the Bridge-Tunnel Traffic Operations
Control Center.
“We believe it is important to expose students to real life decision
making exercised in engineering and business projects, that affect their
daily lives. So, when they make decisions about their college careers
they will have a better understanding of what to expect in their respective
career paths. This program’s main objective is to help to develop
the future engineering workforce leadership in our communities,” stated
Dr. Otsebele Nare, HU assistant professor of electrical engineering and
co-director of the Business of Engineering program.
To qualify for the program rising high school sophomores must have a 3.0
cumulative grade point average, write an essay and submit a letter of recommendation.
The United States Department of Energy sponsored the program hosted by the
