HU Announces Summer Programs for Children

Hampton, VA - Hampton University will host a variety of summer activities for children of all ages. The summer programs are as follows:

Learn how to march like the HU Marching F.O.R.C.E. at The Barney E. Smart High School Band Camp and Director’s Clinic from July 8 – 14.  This camp is for high school band members and band directors.  For more information contact Rasan Holmes at (757) 728-6875 or Al Davis at (757) 728-6876.

Head Coach Kevin Nickelberry of the Hampton Pirate Basketball team will be hosting the Kevin Nickelberry Basketball Camp from August 13 - 17. Boys and girls ages 8 - 17 are welcomed to participate with hopes of improving fundamental skills and teamwork.  For more information contact Eric Williams at (757) 727-5719.

MEAC Champion Head Coach Joe Taylor of the Hampton Pirate Football team will be hosting the Joe Taylor Football Camp from June 16 - 20.  Boys ages 7-17 are welcomed to participate and should look forward to improvement in individual techniques and teamwork.  For more information call (757) 727-5322.

HU’s Music Enrichment Program will give children in grades 4 - 9 a chance to work and enhance their fundamentals of music.  Children will also be able to receive lessons with instruments of interest.  This camp will be held from June 19 - July 26.  For more information contact Mr. Jerry Bracey at (757) 728-6604.

HU’s Kiddie Kollege Kamp will give children a learning experience in a college atmosphere. Children will be educated on basic skills of math, science, language, arts, and computers. They will also be able to enjoy swimming instructions included in daily programs. Dates for the camp are from June 18 - July 21. Times for the camp are 8 a.m. – noon. for children ages 5 - 6 and 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. for children ages 7 - 12.  For more information call (757) 727-5207.

The Summer Transportation Institute gives rising 9th, 10th, and 11th graders a chance to explore options of careers in transportation. The 4-week long program includes development of academic skills as well as a chance to explore different career options of transportation. The camp is scheduled to start June 25 - July 19. The Hampton University Honors College will be hosting the A PLUS Program for students ages 12 to 16 June 24 -June 30. Students will reside on campus and learn about the history of Jamestown Virginia in celebration of it’s 400th anniversary and participate in a variety of sports. The HU R.I.D.E.R.S. camp for children ages 7-17 is intended to provide campers with basic horse riding skills.  Eight sessions will be held from June 18 - July 13.  Through reading and arts and crafts sessions campers will learn about how to care for horses, types of horses, and riding equipment and terminology.  For more information contact Dr. Beatrice Darden-Melton at (757) 727-5706.
