HU's WHOV 88.1 FM Presents Jazz in the Hip-Hop Generation Symposium
Hampton, VA - Hampton University's WHOV 88.1 FM and the World Famous Lessons in Jazz Series (WFLJS) will kick off the 38th Annual Hampton Jazz Festival
with a "Jazz in the Hip-Hop Generation" symposium on June 22 at 7:30 p.m. at HU's Ogden Hall. The symposium will feature a dynamic panel of discussion on the evolution in the relationship between hip-hop and jazz.
WHOV and WFLJS invite the public to engage with esteemed jazz musicians and hip-hop producers at the symposium as they discuss the rich legacy of the modern music spectrum. Panelists will include: Ronnie Lewis, Wayne Henderson,
Jean Carne, Lonnie "Liston" Smith, Roy Ayers, Nicolay and Easy Mo Bee.
As a radio show, WFLJS is a direct challenge to the standard "smooth jazz" format that has become even more restricted and predictable. The show's flag station, WHOV 88.1 FM, was ranked the nation's 12th best college radio
station by the Princeton Review in 2003 and has been broadcasting WFLJS for five years. Hosts Kevin "The Moose" Anderson, Marcel "Big Cel" Canady and Montez "The Whiz" Martin take radio to another level by exposing the world
to the evolving relationship between jazz and hip-hop.
Admission to the symposium is $10 to the general public and free to all junior high and high school students. For ticket or event information, please contact Kevin "The Moose" Anderson by phone at (757) 727-5408, by fax at
