Obama Fellows to Train at HU

Hampton, VA - The Obama Organizing Fellowship Program will start at Hampton University on June 14 with a three-day training workshop at 8:30 a.m. in McGrew Towers Conference Center. Training will last through July 26. More than 275 students are expected to attend.

According to BarackObama.com, the Obama Organizing Fellowship program is designed for students and recent graduates who want to be a part of a new generation of leadership that believes, like Senator Barack Obama, that real change comes from the ground up. The primary outcome for the Fellowship Program is to build capacity for the general election through voter registration, voter mobilization, and training. To this end, fellows will be trained on the basics of organizing and campaign fundamentals and then placed in communities throughout Virginia to carryout grassroots activities.

Fellows have been asked to commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week. Through this program, they will participate in working with the community in conjunction with grassroots leaders and campaign staff.
