HU Hosts Virginia HBCU Tobacco Policy Summit

The Hampton University Department of Health, Education, and Recreation will host the Virginia HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and
Universities) Tobacco Policy Summit titled "African Americans & Tobacco: You don't know what you THINK you know!" The summit will
take place in the Hampton University Student Center on Wednesday, June 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
HBCU students, faculty, staff and community members interested in tobacco use prevention are invited to attend. The purpose of the summit is to showcase presentations
on tobacco policy issues for African Americans. Presenters include Mike-E, an award-winning spoken word artist who blends hip-hop and poetry in his work "From Ethiopia to
Detroit & Back;" and Rene Hicks, author of "Silver Telly," an award-winning documentary on secondhand smoke. The summit is being sponsored by a grant from the Virginia
Department of Health, Tobacco Use Control Project and is a part of our Healthy Hamptonians 2010 health promotion initiative at HU.
Registration for the summit is free and open to the public. A tool kit, lunch, and refreshments will be provided free of charge for the first 100 participants.
