HU and Fort Monroe Celebrate New Partnership
Hampton, VA -Hampton University and Fort Monroe have formed a partnership agreement to share professional and educational resources to benefit both communities. A signing ceremony will be held at the Fort Monroe Casemate Museum on Friday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. to celebrate the new partnership.
HU President Dr. William R. Harvey and Lt. Gen. David P. Valcourt will be signing the agreement at the ceremony. The HU Band will join the TRADOC Army Band in playing the National Anthem, HU’s Alma Mater and the Army Song.
The ceremony will kick off a weekend of celebration and activities. Later on Friday, there will be a Multicultural Day celebration at the Fort Monroe Parade Field where there will be food tasting and entertainment from 5 to 8 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
The weekend’s activities will commence with the HU v. Delaware State football game on Saturday, Sept. 26. at Armstrong Stadium. There will be a military pre-game show at 5:30 p.m. and the game will begin at 6 p.m. Game tickets will be sold at a discounted rate of $10 to those with military ID.
Fort Monroe has an illustrious history that dates back to the War of 1812 and the Civil War. Since 1973, it has been home to Training and Doctrine Command, which combines the training of soldiers with the development operational doctrine and the development and procurement of new weapon systems.
Hampton University, a dynamic, progressive institution of higher education, is a privately-endowed, non-profit, non-sectarian, co-educational, historically black university.
