HU PLAYERS AND COMPANY PRESENT "FOR COLORED GIRLS..."

Hampton, VA - The Hampton University Players and Company proudly presents "For Colored Girls... Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf" by Ntozake Shange. This powerful hybrid of poetry and drama will be held Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Armstrong Hall's Little Theatre at HU. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinee opens at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for senior citizens, children and students, and admission for HU students is free.
Shange's Obie Award-winning play weaves in and out of the lives of six women offering a broad range of personalities. These powerful and beautiful portraits capture the sounds and cadences of pain, sadness and joy in their unforgettable images of contemporary, female black America.
With more than 15 years of stage experience, Lisa Evans, assistant professor in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, will serve as stage director for "For Colored Girls."Evans holds a bachelor's degree from Hampton University and a master's degree from Regent University.
Bresean Jenkins, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as costume designer. Jenkins has designed for numerous HU Players' productions including "Smokey Joe's Cafe," "Romeo and Juliet," and "Little Shop of Horrors." And in his 20th season with the HU Players, assistant professor of speech and theater C. Perry Otto will head scenic and light design.
