HU Commemorates World AIDS Day with Awareness Activities
BET's Rap-it-Up campaign to visit campus
Hampton, VA - The Hampton University World AIDS Day Committee will present a series of seminars, workshops, awareness events and BET's Rap-it-Up campaign on Nov. 29-Dec. 1 in commemoration of World AIDS Day.
Rap-it-Up is BET’s call to action, grassroots HIV/AIDS awareness campaign designed to address the epidemic in the African-American community. Rap-it-Up seeks to help African-American youth and families protect against HIV/AIDS related illnesses and diminish the incidences of HIV/AIDS.
The HU World AIDS Day activities will include:
- Thursday, Nov. 29

- World AIDS Day Committee Seminar: “Real Talk: Conversation about AIDS in the African-American Community” - 6 p.m., Student Center Lounge
- Friday, Nov. 30

- BET’s Rap-it-Up Campaign Video and AIDS Testing – noon- 4 p.m., Student Center
- Poetry readings, 12:30 p.m., Student Center Atrium
- Student Organizations AIDS seminars – 1.p.m.- 3 p.m., Student Center Lounge
- Terpsichorean Dance Company: AIDS Benefit – 4:30 p.m., Student Center Ballroom, $5 general admission
- Candlelight AIDS Walk sponsored by the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – 5:30 p.m., Student Center Ballroom to Ogden Hall
- Saturday, Dec. 1

- AIDS Walk sponsored by the School of Pharmacy - 10 a.m.- noon, Armstrong Stadium
