HU School of Pharmacy Hosts Diabetic Workshop

Hampton, VA - Hampton University's School of Pharmacy is hosting a Diabetes Pharmacy Traineeship entitled, “Education and Counseling of Underserved Patients About Diabetes” for local pharmacists and pharmacy educators on Friday, Dec. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For only $95, you will receive a full day of workshops, a comprehensive manual, meals, interact with other healthcare professionals and earn eight continuing education units (CEUs). In order to receive the academic credit, you must attend all of the sessions.

The workshops include: foot care - activity, nutrition recommendations and meal planning, working lunch-portion size, food label-activity, oral combination therapy, insulin pattern management, and self-monitored blood glucose. The featured program facilitators are Evan M. Sisson, PharmD, MSHA, CDE, clinical pharmacy manager of the Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Va and Michele Bedwell, MS, RD, CDE, dietician, Diabetes Health Center: Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Va. They are both highly skilled professionals and very knowledgeable in the treatment and care of diabetic patients.

Upon completion of the full day workshop, attendees will have a broader understanding of the treatment and maintenance for diabetics, able to develop an individual diet and exercise program, increase patient education, discuss diabetic medication, and more.
