HU PROFESSOR 1st AFRICAN AMERICAN TO LEAD INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL ASSOCIATION

Hampton, VA - Hampton University Professor and Chairperson of the Architecture Department Bradford C. Grant, was recently confirmed as the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) 2002 President.

ACSA is the primary membership organization working to advance the quality of architecture education in North America. Grant becomes the first professor from a historically black college or university (HBCU) and the first African American to lead the 89-year-old organization.

"I look forward to leading this organization as we define the meaning and substance of degree nomenclature, titles, internships, digital technology and other architecture education issues. It is also important for ACSA to continue to lead diversity efforts, which involve students, faculty, and administrators in architecture education. I am committed to developing these goals," said Grant.

Endowed University Professor of Architecture, Grant has at Hampton University for five years and is the founding director of Hampton's Urban Institute, the Community Design service, the learning arm of the Department of Architecture.

ACSA, founded in 1912, develops architectural faculty and research programs for colleges and universities all over the country. CSA has 123 full and candidate member schools of architecture in the U.S. and Canada.
