HU TO HOST EXECUTIVE SUMMIT FOR ASPIRING COLLEGE PRESIDENTS

Hampton, VA - On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2 - 3, Hampton University, Hampton, Va. will host "On the Road to the Presidency: The Executive Leadership Summit." The Summit is intended for aspiring college presidents and for those aspiring to other executive leadership positions.

Dr. William R. Harvey, President of Hampton University for nearly a quarter of a century, has not only moved the University to higher levels of academic and fiscal excellence, but has assumed the mantle of bridge builder to others who aspired to become college presidents or to assume other executive leadership positions. During the past decade nine members from Hampton's executive team have become presidents at other institutions, carrying with them professional tenets from the Harvey Executive Leadership Model.

The former Hampton University executives, who are now presidents at other institutions, will serve as Summit presenters. They will share with aspiring leaders components of the Harvey Executive Leadership Model that they have found critical in their current presidency positions.

Participants will have an opportunity to openly discuss critical challenges one faces in executive roles as well as engage in interactive sessions as to how one moves into, advances and survives in such high level positions. The goal of the presenters is to pass the Executive Torch as it was passed to them. Participants are invited to join the Academic Relay.

The Summit is designed to foster team-building and sharing of knowledge, skills and abilities between those who hold executive positions with those who aspire to assume top leadership positions and create a network among those serving in the position of president at diverse small and middle- sized comprehensive universities and colleges with emphasis upon the challenges presidents face in such settings. The Summit will also provide opportunities for aspiring executive officers to hear first-hand those challenges that presidents face as well as to be exposed to the range of strategies that current leaders have found successful; assist tomorrow's leaders in the development of strategies for accomplishing personal and professional goals; and provide professional development and retooling for those who aspire to maintain excellence in their current leadership positions.

The Summit speakers include: Dr. Carlton Brown, President of Savannah State University; Dr. Warren Buck, Chancellor of the University of Washington-Bothell; Dr. Elnora Daniel, President of Chicago State University; Dr. Calvin Lowe, President of Bowie State University; Dr. Oscar Prater, former President of Fort Valley State University; Mr. Leon Scott, President of Consolidated Bank & Trust Co.; Dr. Rodney Smith, President of Ramapo College and Dr. Dianne Boardley Suber, President of St. Augustine's College.

The cost for the Summit is $600. Cost is due with submission of registration form. The cost includes continental breakfast and lunch on Nov. 2 and 3, dinner cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk on Nov. 2 and closing banquet on Nov. 3. Onsite registration will be accepted.
