HU TO HOLD CHARTER SCHOOL INFORMATION SESSION

Hampton, VA - The Hampton University Charter School for Math, Science and Technology (HU-MST) will have an information session for prospective students, parents and the public at 6 p.m. on Nov. 12 at the Eva C. Mitchell Building on campus.

HU-MST will be housed in the Eva C. Mitchell Building and will enroll sixth and seventh grade students for the September 2002 school year.

Parents, teachers, students and interested community members can gather information about registration, the lottery system for the 120 available spaces as well as applications for the new charter middle school.

The HU-MST Charter School, which was approved in June by the Hampton School Board, is a project between the school district and the university. The school plans to serve gifted and arts students, but any interested student can apply as well as "at risk" youth, who plan to attend college to focus on math, science and technology and to build ethics, morals and character.

The school plans to enroll eighth graders in 2003.

For more information about the session contact 757-728-6251 or send an e-mail to hucharterschool@hamptonu.edu.
