HU FORUM TO DISCUSS STUDENT RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Hampton, VA - The Hampton University Behavioral Sciences Research Center will host the 4th Annual Hampton University Research Forum on April 2-3 in the Student Center Ballroom. The theme for this year's forum is "Enhancing Student Research at Hampton University."
The forum is free and open to the public.
The goals of the forum are to increase the research capacity of Hampton University students to connect to the broader behavioral and social science research community and to provide student access to highly competitive research graduate programs.
On April 2 at 9 a.m., the keynote panel discussion will address the topic "Promoting the New Generation of Student Researchers." The panel will consist of Dr. Sherman Ragland of the National Institute of Mental Health Office of Special Populations and Hampton University administrators.
Session I, entitled "Student Research Experience: COR and McNair Scholars," will include presentations from students who have been engaged in intense, contiguous research projects along with programs that will lead to doctoral studies.
In Session II, "New Strategies for Finding Research Opportunities," Hampton University professors along with undergraduates will share techniques to enhance the search process for summer research opportunities and internships.
In Session III, "Student Research Poster Session," students will have individual and team research projects set up for display. During this exhibition period student researchers will be present to discuss their work and answer any questions. The presentations on April 2 will close with Session IV in which graduate students will continue to interact with Hampton University undergraduates in "What Students Need to Know About Graduate School."
On April 3, Session V, entitled "Faculty Development Small Group Discussion," will consist of faculty members who are developing research proposals. Visiting satellite researchers are also invited.
