TOM JOYNER MORNING SHOW RETURNS TO HU
SOS Band To Perform At Show

Hampton, VA - The Tom Joyner Southwest Airlines Sky Show will be broadcast live from Hampton University on Oct. 19. The show will take place in Ogden Hall from 6 a.m. - 10 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.

The show was also broadcast live from HU in 1998. Tom Joyner, J. Anthony Brown, Cybil, Myra J., and Ms. Dupree are featured in the show. There will also be a live performance by the SOS Band whose hits include "Take Your Time (Do it Right)."

A sky show is a live broadcast of the Tom Joyner Morning Show, which is done in front of a live audience, featuring a national recording artist or group. There are currently 30 sky shows each year, making it the largest, free, live African- American entertainment series in the country.

Joyner's Dallas-based syndicated morning show airs on nearly 100 stations nationwide, and he is the first African-American to be elected into the Radio Hall of Fame. Joyner has been called the "Fly Jock" and the "Hardest Working Man in Radio." His urban program treats listeners to an on-air team that reports and comments on the latest news of interest to the audience. Also featured are drop-in celebrity guests, an in-house band, on-site remotes and an audience-tested urban play list. Weaving it all together is his upbeat energy and humorous insights.

Joyner, a four-time Billboard magazine award winner, began his radio career immediately after graduating from Tuskegee University. A native of Tuskegee, Ala., Joyner made headlines in the 1980s after working at various stations in Memphis, St. Louis, Dallas and Chicago. In the mid-1980s he accepted the simultaneous positions of morning drive man of KKDA-FM in Dallas and afternoon drive talent at WGCI-FM in Chicago. His daily round trip commute between Dallas and Chicago earned him national publicity and high ratings.
