HU WELFARE TO WORK PROGRAM HONORS GRADUATES
Councilwoman Mamye BaCote to give keynote address

Hampton, VA - The Hampton University Career Advancement and Resiliency Empowerment (HU-CARE) Program will honor 22 graduates on March 13 at 10 a.m. in McGrew Towers Conference Center.

The keynote speaker is Newport News Councilwoman and Hampton University graduate Mamye E. BaCote. BaCote will address the theme "Striving Towards Excellence."

Graduates will receive certificates of completion in the following areas: information technology, computer repair, customer service/call center, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), para-educator: childcare, youth services and elder care.

Funded in 1998 by the U.S. Department of Labor, the HU-CARE Program is designed to provide non-traditional employment assistance through job training and job retention education. Participants must meet certain eligibility criteria such as receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and meeting hard-to-employ barriers. HU-CARE is one of the few Welfare to Work programs on the Peninsula that serves male non-custodial parents.

"Our graduates truly exemplify the 'achieve and believe' attitude through overcoming insurmountable barriers toward positive accomplishments," said HU-CARE director Judy Faircloth.
