HU TO HOST EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP SUMMIT
Hampton, VA - On
Nov. 1 - 2, Hampton University will host the Executive Leadership
Summit "Passing the Torch." The Summit is intended for aspiring
college presidents and for those aspiring to other executive
leadership positions.
Dr. William R. Harvey, President of Hampton
University for a quarter of a century, has not only moved the
University to higher levels of academic and fiscal excellence, but
has assumed the mantle of bridge builder to others who aspire to
become college presidents or to assume other executive leadership
positions. During the past decade, nine members from Hampton's
executive team have become presidents at other institutions,
carrying with them professional tenets from the Harvey Executive
Leadership Model.
Last year at the first annual Leadership Summit,
the former Hampton University executives, who are now presidents at
other institutions, served as Summit presenters. They shared with
aspiring leaders components of the Harvey Executive Leadership Model
that they have found critical in their current presidency positions.
This year's presenters include: Dr. Frederick S.
Humphries, President and Chief Executive Officer of The National
Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education; Dr. Norman C.
Francis, President of Xavier University of Louisiana; Dr. Sarah E.
Moten, Education Division Chief, Education for Development and
Democracy Initiatives USAID; Dr. Grace E. Harris, Provost Emerita,
Virginia Commonwealth University and Alan E. Gollihue, President and
Executive Director of the Portsmouth General Hospital Foundation.
Participants will have an opportunity to openly
discuss critical challenges one faces in executive roles as well as
engage in interactive sessions as to how one moves into, advances
and survives in such high level positions. The goal of the
presenters is to pass the Executive Torch as it was passed to them.
Participants are invited to join the Academic Relay.
The Summit will provide opportunities for
aspiring executive officers to hear first-hand, those challenges
that top executives face as well as to be exposed to the range of
strategies that current leaders have found successful. The Summit
will also assist tomorrow's leaders in the development of strategies
for accomplishing personal and professional goals; and provide
professional development and retooling for those who aspire to
maintain excellence in their current leadership positions.
The Summit will take place at the HU Student
Center. The cost is $600 which includes continental breakfast and
lunch on Nov. 1 and 2, dinner cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk on
Nov. 1 and closing banquet on Nov. 2. Onsite registration will be
accepted.
