HU TO HOST 3rd ANNUAL CONFERENCE,
HEALTH FAIR FOR MINORITIES
Hampton, VA - In an effort to
increase healthcare awareness, Hampton University will host its 3rd
Annual Healthy Choices for Minorities conference and health fair as
part of the Healthy Hamptonians 2010 initiative on Oct. 16-17. The
event is free and open to the public.
Free health screenings and assessments will be available fore: blood
pressure, blood glucose, blood cholesterol, hearing, body
composition, posture analysis and the sickle cell trait.
Dr. Warren K. Ashe, associate dean for research at Howard
University's College of Medicine, will give a keynote address on
"Safeguarding Humans in Health and Medical Research: History and
Ethics," in the Memorial Church on Wednesday Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
The health fair will be held Oct. 17 in Holland Hall from 9:30 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m.
Conference attendees can obtain information about proper diet,
fitness, tobacco use, disease and other healthcare concerns.
The Healthy Hamptonians 2010 initiative is in support of the
national health agenda "Healthy People 2010-Wellness for Life." The
goals at Hampton University include improving the quality of life
through collaborative efforts that promote healthy behaviors and
create a healthy environment. The initiative also stresses the
importance of reducing health disparities through multidisciplinary
efforts that empower individuals.
