Hip Hop concert to communicate message of hope

Hampton, VA - The Hampton University Office of Student Activities and the Hampton University Pan Hellenic Council will celebrate World AIDS Day with several awareness activities on Dec. 1 and Dec. 7. All events are free and open to the public.

The Release: Fight for Life Hip Hop Concert, coordinated by AEeTech Entertainment Inc. and Self Protection Awareness, will take place in the Student Center Atrium on Dec. 1 from noon-2 p.m. Hip Hop groups will communicate a message of hope, strength, unity and awareness through song and dance. Also during the concert, different agencies will be on hand to distribute information on AIDS prevention and awareness and members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will pass out red ribbons, the universal symbol of the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Also on Dec. 1, the Pan Hellenic Council will sponsor a Candle Light Vigil at 6 p.m. at Ogden Circle. On Dec. 7, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will sponsor an AIDS Walk starting at Ogden Circle at 9 a.m.

The year’s World AIDS Day theme in Virginia is “Stigma and Discrimination” utilizing the slogan “Live and Let Live.” World AIDS Day aims to increase awareness of the magnitude of the HIV/AIDS epidemic globally and in the U.S. despite new hope in treatment.
