         --Task Force Appointed to Hampton Script
  Hampton, Va. - The editors of Hampton University's Hampton Script and Dr. JoAnn Haysbert, HU acting president, have reached an agreement to publish the Oct. 22 issue of the student newspaper. The students will publish and distribute the paper at the Homecoming game on Sat., Oct. 25, 2003.
The editors of the Script will redesign the paper with Haysbert's letter on the front page. The HU administration has agreed that in the future the arbitrar of any disputes regarding the student newspaper will be the faculty advisor.

  Hampton, Va. - Hampton University's Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications will host a journalism ethics forum on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Scripps Howard auditorium. Six prominent newspaper and television journalists will discuss challenges to newsroom ethics and diversity in the wake of the New York Times Jayson Blair scandal. The forum is free and open to the public.
The six journalists, including two from the Times will visit Scripps Howard classes throughout the day on Thursday and consult with faculty during a working luncheon seminar. The Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation of Oklahoma City are sponsoring the event.

08/8/03 - HU RECEIVES $200,000 TO STUDY HARMFUL AIR POLLUTANT
  Hampton, Va. - Hampton University was recently awarded a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to study the reduction of nitrogen oxide, which causes acid rain and urban smog, for a three-year project. Hampton will design and test a tin oxide-based catalyst to remove large amounts of nitrogen oxide from power plant gases in order to help treat air pollution.
