HU TO HOST HOMECOMING 2003

Hampton, VA - Hampton University is celebrating Homecoming 2003 with a week-long schedule of events, Sun., Oct. 19 - Sun., Oct. 26, 2003. This year’s theme is “Seize the Pirate Spirit.” All events are open to the public.

Sun., Oct. 19:

  • Miss Hampton Pageant/Coronation, Ogden Hall, 4 pm. Admission: $8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Mon., Oct. 20:

  • Volkswagen will host, “The Art of Performance Driving,” an interactive activity village to include test drives of Volkswagen vehicles, games, rock climbing and giveaways, from 10 am to 3 pm at the Student Center.
  • Volkswagen will also host a drive-in movie, “The Pirates of the Caribbean,” beginning at dusk at the Student Center.

    Both events are free.

Tues., Oct. 21:

  • “Battle of the Rap,” 7:30 pm, Ogden Hall. Admission is $2. An emcee battle to find the best impromptu rapper. Contestants for this event have previously auditioned.

Wed., Oct. 22:

  • “Poetry Slam 2003,” 7:30 pm, Student Center Ballroom. Admission is $3 in advance, $4 at the door.

Thurs., Oct. 23:

  • SGA presents “Laugh Fest 2003,” a comedy show featuring Michael Blackson, Cocoa Brown, Red Bone and Willie Brown, 7:30 pm, Ogden Hall. Admission is $7 in advance, $10 at the door.

Fri., Oct. 24:

  • “HU Spirit Day.” 102.1 FM presents the nationally syndicated “Russ Parr Morning Show,” live from Ogden Hall, 6 am to 10 am. Admission is free.
  • The Homecoming Bazaar, featuring food and clothing vendors from across the country, two sound stages with new, up and coming artists, will be held from 10 am to 5pm at the Student Center.
  • The Student Union Board will host the annual Step Show at 8 pm at the HU Convocation Center. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Sat., Oct. 25:

  • The annual Homecoming Parade will begin at the Hampton City Hall at 10 am, then proceed to King Street, Armstead Avenue and finish at Settler’s Landing Road. Russ Parr will serve as the Grand Marshall.
  • The football game versus South Carolina State University will begin at 2 pm at Armstrong Stadium.
  • The “Best of All Worlds Tour,” homecoming concert, featuring Busta Rhymes and the Backyard Band will begin at 9pm at the HU Convocation Center. Tickets for the general public are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Package prices include the Friday night step show and concert for $30. Package tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets go on sale Saturday, Oct. 18 at Ticketmaster and Monday, Oct. 20 at 12 noon at the HU Convocation Center.

Sun., Oct. 26:

  • The Hampton University museum will host a Jazz Brunch featuring the HU Jazz Ensemble at the museum, 11:30am to 4 pm.
  • The HU Choir will perform in concert at 3 pm in Ogden Hall.
