As the 2007 VHFP first place winner, Ward will be awarded a $3,000 scholarship. The VHFP allows college students to learn from elder African-American leaders, who have made major contributions in their fields and in the African-American community, through direct dialogue, informal mentorship, and video documentation.

HU has implemented an Emergency Notification System (ENS) as an additional method to notify all students, faculty, and staff of emergencies or special notices. This system will allow the University to broadcast text messages to cell phones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and deliver messages to landline phones, email addresses, pagers and voicemails.

Hampton, Va. - Hampton University will participate in Virginia Private College Week 2006 from July 30 - Aug. 4. High school students and their families are invited to tour Hampton University. During the week students will receive application fee waivers in order to apply to HU for free.

Hampton, Va. - Gladys Smiley Bell, Peabody librarian at Hampton University's William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library, has received the 2007 American Library Association (ALA) Equality Award. This award recognizes contributions toward promoting equality in the library profession. Dr. Kenneth A. Yamashita, library division manager at Stockton-San Joaquin County Library in Stockton, Calif., also received the award.
