Hampton, Va. - Olympic Gold Medalist LaShawn Merritt is the grand marshal for the Hampton University 2008 Homecoming Parade on Nov. 1. Merritt, a Portsmouth, Va. native, is a 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the 400m and the 400m relay in this year’s Olympics in Beijing. The parade begins at 10 a.m. behind the Hampton City Hall building on Eaton Street, continues to Lincoln Street, down Settler’s Landing Road, to Mariner’s Cove Road, to College Plaza, to East Queen Street and ends at HU’s campus.

10/21/08 MAYOR WARD TO VISIT HU CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
 

Hampton, Va. - City of Hampton Mayor Molly Joseph Ward will visit Hampton University’s Child Development Center on Oct. 24 from 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. to read to the center’s nearly 25 four-year-olds.  The visit is in conjunction with the Hampton Mayor’s Book Club initiative which promotes family reading.  During the visit, each four-year-old will receive the book of the month, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle, and a book bag.

10/13/08 HAGGINS NAMED HU'S FIRST FEMALE CHAPLAIN
 

Hampton, Va. - Hampton University has named the Rev. Debra L. Haggins as the university’s first female chaplain in the institution’s 140-year history.  As chaplain, Haggins will serve as pastor of the HU Memorial Church, director of the Religious Studies Program and handle all religious affairs for the university.

Hampton, Va. - Hampton University’s College of Education and Continuing Studies is scheduled for a spring semester 2009 accreditation review by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE.)  Federal regulations require that accrediting agencies allow for public comment on the qualification of institutions or programs under consideration for first accreditation or continuing accreditation.

The documentaries, which answer the question "What does it mean to be a man?" will be featured alongside works submitted by long-time documentary veterans.
